Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has withdrawn from the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024 due to being unfit to play.

Frankie has not played since injuring his right ankle in the 3-2 El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid on April 21. With the 27-year-old having been training alone for a week. But after tests on Monday the medical team confirmed the player will not be available for the tournament UFABET 

‘I’m sad and disappointed not to be at the Euros,’ Frankie posted on Instagram. ‘We’ve been working hard in the last few weeks but unfortunately my ankle needs more time.’

‘It was a dream and an honour to represent our country in such a major tournament. But now, like the rest of the country, I will be cheering for our team from the sidelines.’ 

The Dutch Football Federation confirmed on Monday that. De Jong will not play in Euro 2024 and wished him a speedy recovery. 

At present, the team’s coach Ronald Koeman has not yet decided who will replace De Jong or whether to use the remaining players.

For the Netherlands, they are in Group D of Euro 2024 and will play their first match against Poland on Sunday, June 16.
